Peninsula Station, an affordable housing building with a solar thermal system designed and installed by SunWater Solar, has been recognized by Sustainable San Mateo County’s 12th annual Sustainability & Green Building Awards. Congratulations Peninsula Station on this award, and for taking the lead on energy efficiency!

SunWater Solar enjoyed working on this project with Mid-Peninsula Housing, which owns Peninsula Station and numerous other Bay Area multi-family buildings. SunWater installed 24 Heliodyne solar thermal collectors on Peninsula Station’s standing seam metal roof, and completed extensive work in the building’s mechanical room.

Solar thermal systems play a key role in helping buildings win sustainability awards and meet California’s stringent building codes (i.e., Title 24). These regulations get stricter every year, and Peninsula Station is among the vanguard of buildings that have gotten ahead of the curve by installing solar thermal before it’s required. The property owners can now reap all the financial and environmental benefits of solar thermal with the knowledge that Peninsula Station is a working example of how all new construction in California will look in the not-too-distant future.
